Tóm tắt:
The modern network-based theory of firm emphasizes the external embeddedness of firms in the local market. Firm’s external embeddedness is particularly relevant in the context of product innovation given the need of domestic firms to tap into externally dispersed knowledge pools. This paper investigates the organizational conditions under which external embeddedness allows domestic firms to generate product innovations. Using survey data on 273 Vietnamese firms, we show how the level of firms’ export intensity serves as a boundary condition in the network-based theory of the firm. We find that externally embedded firms with moderately high levels of firms’ export intensity generate more product innovations than similarly externally embedded firms that have low levels of export intensity. We extend the network theory of the firm attributing a central role to firms’ external embeddedness by showing how intra-organizational aspects, specifically the level of export intensity shapes the ability of firms to generate product innovations.

Abstract: This study aims to identify which information is potential to drive smokers to quit smoking. By using the choice experiment method, a survey was carried out on 120 adult smokers in two districts (Ninh Kieu and Binh Thuy) of Can Tho City, Vietnam. The findings from this study indicate that all included attributes are significant factors to warning the risks of cigarette smoke. Specifically, health warning graphics (i.e., the image of lung damage and damaged teeth), risk information and smoking ban in public places, and price are effective vehicles. Moreover, under the lens of economics, we found that the inefficiency in controlling smuggled tobacco is a serious problem in Vietnam. In addition to the budget deficit, this could pose a threat to the ability to conduct tobacco control policies for long-term in Vietnam.

ABSTRACT
Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is a modern public transportation mode. It involves highway lanes or rights- of-way dedicated exclusively to specially-designed buses.  MRT is one of the most effective ways to reduce the use of private vehicles for daily travel in big cities. The success of MRT, however, depends on the reliability of service, the speed at which vehicles can travel, and their attractiveness to passengers. This study of the introduction of MRT in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia makes clear that the level of accessibility and connectivity of MRT are vital.
The study investigates how accessibility and connectivity affect the “ride experience” of MRT users. Survey results suggest that: 1) feeder bus services in residential areas are crucial; 2) lack of connection with other public transport modes can undermine interest in switching to using MRT; 3) multi-mode fare passes that link MRT to other transit connections are necessary; 4) limited park and ride space and bicycle parking at MRT stations, along with the cost of parking, can inhibit MRT use; and 5) the availability of commercial services like shopping in and around MRT stations can adversely affect potential MRT riders’ decision to use MRT.  Results show that the average number of trips per MRT user depends primarily on the accessibility and connectivity of MRT stations. The paper offers policy recommendations aimed at encouraging more riders to reduce their reliance on private vehicles through increased use of MRT services.
