WORKSHOP ON ADJUSTMENTS AND RECONSTRUCTION
OF THE MASTER’S PROGRAMME IN ECONOMICS
(UNDER DECREE NO.17/2021/TT-BGDĐT)
In order to improve the quality of teaching and meet the needs of society in the context of international economic integration and digital transformation, Department of Economics, School of Economics, organized a workshop to collect feedback from stakeholders about the research-oriented and application-oriented Master’s programs in Economics. The workshop was held at 14:00 on January 14th, 2022, at the School of Economics meeting room and online via Google Meet.
The program covered the following topics:
- Welcoming online delegates
- Introduction of delegates and statement of reasons
- Opening speech of the workshop
- Report on the draft adjustment and development of the Master’s Degree program in Economics
- Discussion, expressing opinions of delegates
- Workshop summary
- Closing workshop
Participants in the workshop from Can Tho University comprised members of the Department of Economics, School of Economics, leaders of Departments of School of Economics, and representatives of departments and centers outside School of Economics; especially, the presence of experts, employers from agencies and enterprises such as the Institute of Socio-Economics of Can Tho City, Can Tho University of Technology, Management Board of Industrial Parks of Hau Giang Province, Kien Giang Province’s Department of Tourism, Kien Giang University, the State Bank – Hau Giang Branch, Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) – Can Tho Branch, Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB) – Can Tho Branch and Alumni.
The Master’s programs in Economics were officially established in 2015. The programs have received significant attention from society over the past six years. The workshop was held with the aim of collecting feedback from experts to adjust and improve both the research-oriented and application-oriented Master’s programs in Economics. The research-oriented program aims to equip learners with in-depth theoretical knowledge and scientific methodology to conduct research on economic issues (at the micro- and macro-level). Meanwhile, the application-oriented program allows learners to apply both theoretical and practical knowledge to serve the purpose of local economic development, respond appropriately to international trends, and flexibly use information technology comprehensively in all aspects.
Delegates went on discussions of the new Master’s programs content after the report of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Quan Minh Nhut. Experts recommended skills and modules that should be added to the programs to satisfy the needs of business and community. Meanwhile, the workshop was also an opportunity for former students to express their own experiences after enrollment in the programs.
In addition to the above contributions, many valuable comments and sharing from experts, employers, and alumni were recorded. The team in charge has summarized the achievements and limitations that need to be overcome to adjust and improve the Master’s programs in Economics comprehensively, oriented towards research and application based on the development objectives of the Mekong River Delta in particular and the country in general.
The workshop was closed successfully at 16:00 on the same day.
