The Third International Conference in Business, Economics, and Finance

On December 17th, 2021, the School of Economics (SoE) Can Tho University (CTU) hosted the 3rd International Conference on Business, Economics, and Finance. This is an annual international conference series of SoE which follows the success of two previous 1st and 2nd international conferences in 2019 and 2020. Especially, this year the conference was organized in coordination with Sofia University (Bulgaria), Hue College of Economics, and Tay Nguyen University.

Attending this 3rd International Conference, on the side of international delegates, there was the presence and virtual presentation by Dr. Nuttanan Wichitaksorn, Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand), Dr. Scott Hipsher, Webster University (USA), Associate Professor Marcelen Yovogan, Sofia University (Bulgaria) and Dr. Marc Kramer, University of Groningen (Netherlands), together with more than 150 delegates who are experts, scientists, lecturers, and students from universities and research institutes from the domestic and international sides.

Facing the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic recently, the virtual presentation by international professors has contributed to the implementation of social distancing and effective pandemic prevention. In particular, the coordination with 3 universities at 4 online special sessions shows great efforts and success of this conference.

At the conference host point in Can Tho University, it was honored to welcome the attendance of Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan – Rector of CTU, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Khuong Ninh – Dean of SoE and representatives of leaders of departments, faculties, institutes, centers, lecturers, graduate students, and students of SoE, together with experts, scientists, and business representatives face-to-face and virtual attendance. At the conference bridge point at the Hue College of Economics, the Conference was honored to welcome the attendance of Associate Professor Truong Tan Quan, Vice-Rector, and other lecturers and delegates participating. The conference was also honored to welcome the attendance of Associate Professor Le Duc Niem, Vice-Rector, and many lecturers and delegates participating at the bridge point of Tay Nguyen University.

Delivering the opening speech at the conference, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan emphasized that the School of Economics is one of the important training units of CTU and has carried out many practical and important types of research related to micro and macro policies at domestic and international levels. This 3rd international conference is a good opportunity for experts and scientists to evaluate the current socio-economic situation, as well as to exchange and share research experiences, contribute to promoting domestic and international economic development.

Delivering the welcome speech and moderated the conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Khuong Ninh warmly welcomed the attendance of the delegates, especially the professors who attended and presented the virtual papers and the delegates who attended 4 virtual special sessions from 3 cooperation universities. Assoc. Prof. Le Khuong Ninh also highlighted the importance of the Conference in updating new research results in economics, business, and finance, and emphasized that the international conference at the SoE with the participation of professors and delegates as well as domestic and international scientists will contribute to building the image and promoting the accomplishment of the university’s goals and missions in terms of research, training, and technology transfer, thus upgrading the ranking for Can Tho University in general and the School of Economics in particular.

Assoc. Prof. Le Khuong Ninh also affirmed to maintain this series of international seminars every year with the desire to become a destination of international knowledge and a broad forum for researchers, lecturers, and scientists in national and international management. In particular, this activity also aims to improve the quality of research-oriented graduate and post-graduate training by creating more opportunities for graduate students and researchers to improve their research capacity through presenting, exchanging, and sharing experiences with domestic and foreign scholars. In addition, with the cooperation of 3 universities, the 3rd International Conference is a very good opportunity to develop exchanges and connections in scientific research between Can Tho University and other universities at the national and international level and other research institutions as well.

In the plenary section, international scholars presented diverse and highly academic research results related to the topics of estimating output and labor loss in the Covid-19 epidemic situation.  The global political situation in the post-pandemic affects the performance of firms and, analysis of financial statements of companies under IFRS and, empirical evidence in the research related to online pension planning tools. Interestingly, all this research focus on researching and solving issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among more than 50 papers submitted to the Conference, after a double-blind review by experienced scientists, 35 papers were accepted and 20 registered to present at the conference and were divided into 4 special sessions with key topics on, but not limited to behavioral economics, labor economics, business, international business, environmental economics, energy economics, risk, and climate change, and tourism in Vietnam. The 4 special sessions including 2 sessions at Can Tho University and 2 sessions at Hue College of Economics and Tay Nguyen University.

The conference was highly appreciated by the delegates and participants in many aspects. In particular, the presentations at the plenary section in the virtual form received praise from the participants, including the ways of the organization, the quality of the presented papers since all of them were also carefully prepared by the reporters. The carefully prepared English Conference Proceedings are expected to come out in March 2022.
